Our Mission Statement

Our Mission Statement

The mission of the American Hip Institute Research Foundation is to alleviate human suffering by revolutionizing the treatment of joint pain. The Foundation aims to cure arthritis and joint pain through a multi-pronged approach consisting of early diagnosis, preventative treatment, and curative surgery.

The Problem

The Problem

Arthritis is a painful and often debilitating condition marked by joint inflammation, stiffness, swelling, and reduced mobility. In the United States, it affects more than 58 million adults and over 300,000 children. The impact goes far beyond the joints:

  • A gateway to opioid use: People with arthritis make up half of all opioid prescriptions in the U.S., playing a significant role in the nation's opioid crisis.
  • A barrier to work: Arthritis is a leading cause of work disability nationwide. In fact, 1 in 25 adults are limited in their ability to work because of it.
  • A toll on mental health: Chronic pain and limited mobility take a serious emotional toll, 1 in 5 adults with arthritis experience frequent mental distress, and nearly 1 in 3 have a history of depression.
  • Arthritis doesn't just hurt. It limits lives, strains mental health, and fuels larger public health challenges. Addressing it is more urgent than ever.
Philosophy

Philosophy

  • Joint pain costs lives. We’re here to help save them.
  • At AHIRF, we believe that no one should have to live with the pain, limitations, and emotional toll of arthritis. Our philosophy is grounded in a bold, urgent mission: to find a cure for joint pain and arthritis.
  • We approach this mission with focus and precision, using the hip joint as a model to unlock solutions that can be applied to all joints. By understanding and addressing one of the body’s most complex and load-bearing joints, we aim to pioneer breakthroughs that transform treatment across the board.
  • As leaders in orthopedic and sports medicine research, we are driving innovation in regenerative medicine and curative surgical techniques. Our goal isn’t just to manage symptoms to restore mobility, eliminate pain, and reclaim lives.
  • At AHIRF, we're not just advancing science; we're reshaping the future of joint care.
