Background

Labral base repair (LBR) aims to restore the suction seal and hip stability. Midterm durability data is limited.

Methods

60 patients (64 hips) underwent arthroscopic LBR and were followed for ≥5 years. Patients with advanced arthritis, dysplasia, or prior surgery were excluded. PROs, VAS, and satisfaction were assessed.

Key Findings

  • Significant and sustained improvement in all outcome scores at 5 years compared to baseline.
  • Mean patient satisfaction was 8.1/10.
  • Survivorship was 90.6%, with 17.2% requiring additional procedures.

Conclusions

Arthroscopic LBR provides durable clinical improvements and high patient satisfaction at midterm follow-up with a low rate of progression to arthroplasty.

What Does This Mean for Providers?

Labral base repair should be considered a reliable surgical option for labral tears to achieve lasting functional improvements and patient satisfaction. Monitor for potential need of revision or conversion arthroplasty in a minority of patients.
