Background:
Gluteus medius (GM) tears can cause hip pain and dysfunction. This study evaluates outcomes after isolated endoscopic GM repair.
Methods:
Review of patients with isolated endoscopic GM repair and minimum 2-year follow-up PROs.
Key Findings:
- Significant improvements in mHHS, NAHS, and pain scores.
- 88.5% achieved clinically meaningful improvement.
- Excellent outcomes noted particularly in partial-thickness GM tears.
Conclusions:
Isolated endoscopic GM repair is effective in improving hip function and reducing pain.
What Does This Mean for Providers?
Providers should consider isolated endoscopic gluteus medius repair as a viable and effective treatment for GM tears, especially partial-thickness tears, when no other hip pathology requires surgical intervention. Accurate diagnosis and appropriate patient selection are key to optimizing outcomes.
