Background:

This study evaluates mid-term outcomes for patients undergoing combined endoscopic gluteus medius (GM) repair and arthroscopic labral treatment compared to labral treatment alone.

Methods:

A matched cohort study with 5-year follow-up comparing hip function and pain relief outcomes between patients receiving both GM repair + labral treatment and those with labral treatment only.

Key Findings:

  • Both groups had significant and comparable improvements in hip function and pain relief.
  • Combined GM repair and labral treatment is a safe and effective approach.

Conclusions:

Concurrent GM repair with labral treatment produces durable improvements similar to labral treatment alone, supporting combined surgical management for patients with both pathologies.

What Does This Mean for Providers?

Consider concomitant endoscopic GM repair when labral pathology is present in patients with gluteus medius tears. This combined approach offers comparable long-term outcomes and can be safely integrated into hip arthroscopy practice to address complex hip pathology comprehensively.
