DOI: 10.1016/j.arthro.2015.02.005

Purpose:

Evaluate outcomes of combined arthroscopic FAI surgery and endoscopic pubic symphysectomy in patients with FAI and osteitis pubis.

Methods:

Retrospective multicenter case series of 7 athletic adults, mean 2.9-year follow-up; assessed pain, function, satisfaction, and complications.

Key Findings:

  • Significant improvement in pain (VAS) and hip function (NAHS).
  • High patient satisfaction (mean 8.3/10).
  • Low complication rates; transient scrotal swelling in two cases, one requiring arthrodesis.

What Does This Mean for Providers?

  • Combined minimally invasive approach is safe and effective for concurrent FAI and osteitis pubis.
  • Endoscopic pubic symphysectomy can be confidently added to arthroscopic FAI surgery in athletic populations.
  • May reduce recovery time and enhance symptom resolution for complex cases.
