Background
Assesses whether active workers’ compensation (WC) claims affect outcomes after hip arthroscopy for FAI and labral tears.
Methods
Compared 52 WC patients to 52 matched non-WC patients on PROs, pain scores, satisfaction, secondary surgeries, and THA conversion.
Key Findings
- WC patients showed similar or better mid-term PRO improvements.
- No significant difference in complication rates, secondary surgeries, or THA conversion.
- WC patients had comparable return-to-work rates.
Conclusions
Active WC claims do not negatively impact mid-term hip arthroscopy outcomes.
What Does This Mean for Providers?
- Providers should not assume worse outcomes in WC patients.
- WC status alone should not exclude patients from consideration for hip arthroscopy.
- Careful evaluation and counseling can help set realistic expectations and support return-to-work planning.
