Background
This study assesses return to play rates and outcomes among recreational golfers undergoing hip arthroscopy for labral tears.
Methods
Prospective data were collected on 49 patients with labral tears who had hip arthroscopy between 2008 and 2015, with at least 2 years of follow-up. Patient-reported outcomes and pain scores were analyzed.
Key Findings
- 90% of golfers returned to play following surgery.
- Significant improvement was observed in PROs and pain scores at follow-up.
Conclusions
Hip arthroscopy provides excellent functional outcomes and a high return-to-play rate for recreational golfers with labral tears.
What Does This Mean for Providers?
Providers should reassure golfing patients that hip arthroscopy for labral tears offers a strong likelihood of returning to sport with significant symptom improvement. Patient motivation and sport-specific goals should be incorporated into perioperative planning.
